Tō Kāinga Whare Programme

Habitat's Tō Kāinga Whare Programme (TKW) - formerly called Minor Repair Service – is a collaborative partnership with the Local District Health Board (DHB) and Primary Health Organisation (PHO).

The programme helps address acute health issues that can be attributed to a cold, damp living environment.

Habitat receives referrals from the hubs, undertakes a comprehensive home visit and then provides a free education kit and undertakes a range of minor repairs to make the home warmer and drier.

This service is currently offered in the Northland DHB area and has received funding from Foundation North for the education kits.

TKW Winter Warmer Pack

Thank you to Mercury, Starship Foundation, Foundation North and some Local Boards for providing funding and partnering with us to help Auckland whānau keep warm and dry during the winter months with our Winter Warmer packs.

Demand for the Winter Warmer packs was incredibly high, and we have distributed over 450 packs. These included a heater, blankets, scoopy to remove condensation in the home, hygrometer to measure temperature and humidity, draught stopping for your windows/doors as well as a spray bottle to help with the removal of mould. All packs also came with information on how to look after your home and use the equipment.

We are distributing the final packs throughout September and hope to be able to offer this service to more families in time for next winter.

Thank you to our volunteers and partners for helping distribute these packs and help whānau stay warm this Winter.

My son is finally sleeping right through the night. I’m just loving it.

I recommend Habitat... big time to anybody, to everybody that needs help. You just need to get in touch with them and you’ll be happy,
like me!
